We use a Philips CDR775 and CDR778 audio CD recorder in our studio quite a lot, but the disks we record usually crash the computer , iBook 933, eMac 800 , G4 450 ect. I have another G4 that will sometimes read them. Using Memorex Music CD-R 80 min discs.
Does anyone else seem to have this issue? Maybe the media? I am able to duplicate this issue with multiple Macs and CD recorders.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Try to borrow another (external) burner, Yamaha, Plextor, La Cie, Iomega or another reputable brand, to see what happens.

Now just to clarify, we're talking, Audio CD recorder, using "audio only" CDR media. Regular CDR's and burned Audio CD's like those burned with iTunes or Roxio Toast are fine. It's discs recorded with Audio CDR decks that are the prob. Now I have not tried with another recorder, like a Tascam or Sony or HHB BurnIt as I do not have access to any of those other devices. If anyone has any good OR bad experiences with the Philips or any other brand of Audio CD Recorder deck I would love to know. If it's just a matter of swiching brands of media that would be great.

Thanks again.

Yes, definitely finalized the discs. What brand of media are you using? It's hit and miss with ours, 1 out of 4 of our macs can read them. Otherwise the decks are great.

There was a debate about this very thing not too long ago. I can't remember where it was posted.... but it' seems that Memorex came up every time. Alot of folks agreed that the Memorex CDs had/have issues. I can't say for sure myself, as I do not use Memorex.

As for dc-rom burners. Yamaha make good ones.
Have only good experiences from their external scsi-burners, never had a problem
burning a cd on them.

Still have an old Yamaha 4x4x6 scsi with updated roms, that still works fine.
(albeit very slow by todays standards).

i use sony audio cdrs and sony audio cdrws and other brands - never used memorex - you should also try to clean your philips recorder as well as your mac's cd-burner with a special cleaning-cd (cleans the laser)
