440 Forums _ Digital Performer, AudioDesk _ Dp6 Upgrade At 195€

Posted by: melenko Thu 3 Jul 2008, 21:20

Well, it seems obvious the upgrade's price of DP6 is 195$, all over the US.
Converting that price in € would give us a price of 123€.
Yet, the price of this upgrade will be 195€, in most of the EU countries!
I, personally, don't accept that treatment.
Motu is not totally responsable of his distributors, and I agree with the way they
sell their products, and let some updates free of charge.
But in this case, I can't accept that. angry.gif
Don't forget 195€ is the customer's price, not a distibutor's price (including marging...).
Linking this with the average currency 's conversion will place that upgrade at +- 300$ !!!!!!
OK! Of course they are ship's costs, and so on, but don't you find the difference is unacceptable?
What do you think?
French users and some belgian ones are furious!
Let's have a look...

DP's french community is about 3000 people!
Let's imagine how many users that represents in the whole EU DP's community...
in Germany, the Netherlands, Zwitserland,Italy, and so on...?
I hope this will help to get a decent price... cool.gif

Otherwise, I will seriously consider Apple'offer with Logic Pro.

We are swimming in the open capitalism in the country of human rights _

For my part, I thought rather Cubase 4!

Do we have the possibility to force European importers to respect the rules of the game?
I though we can cause we are in a strong position: we are victims of discrimination on the selling price.

Please Mister MOTU try to understand our position. We want to keep Digital Performer cause we believe in the quality of the product but by the fault of your dealers in europe, we are expecting to change Digital Performer for another sequencer ( for most of us, Logic will replace DP).

Please Mister MOTU, try to change its business practices unfair otherwise you will lose many customers

Hi everybody:
Well, is not just MOTU, I expended some time recently in Spain and could chek some prices...It´s amazing how people value US products (must I say over-value). Almost every musician is glad to pay almost twice the price of a Fender Jazz Bass, for instance, rather than try a wonderful European well made instrument..
I also could see the same ticket for a bunch of Japanese pedals....
So, let´s face it.....It is an unfair world, there are no rules......and we are in the middle of it.....dealing with
PIRACY and Global Weather changes......

Why don´t we go back a little in time and make our music with our head...??

Happy Weekend...

Thank's for your reply emgcarra, but you are not totally forced to accept unfair rules.
In this case, Motu isn't the cause of that.
But there are some commercial strategies better than the others, for instance Toontrack...

Eu users of DP are so rare.
We are THE three ones!
Ouch! I'm gonna buy Logic... unsure.gif

Melenko> That's exactly what I am thinking about… angry.gif more bangs for the bucks, even if DP is a cool DAW.

It's not MOTU only issue, it's general with most US editors in the software business. Even with the VAT it's not fair. Even Apple has a long history of strange change policies… tongue.gif

Edit:

The french importer is right now giving explanations in the French forum in a cool and informative debate.

Thank's LPM, but I can't find where he really explains the situation... sad.gif

Hello

I'm new to this forum
The prices in the US are normaly without taxes, thats why the differences are so enormous. One thing I found very funny?!? when you try to buy online is that there is actually no 'germany' in the list but countries like Ghana, Federal State of Micronesiaor Butan etc ( how many copies of DP are licensed in these countries?)

Posted by: melenko Thu 10 Jul 2008, 22:28

Thank's kirschkematthias!
Very funny, indeed!

Posted by: lepetitmartien Fri 11 Jul 2008, 13:09

Note that you can't buy from MOTU directly if you are in countries with a local contract of exclusivity like France, Germany…

Posted by: melenko Fri 11 Jul 2008, 21:27

And not in Belgium, too small!
Probably! sad.gif

That sux that Digital Performer is more expensive for EU musicians.
Software should be fairly and evenly priced no matter what location.
I have never used another DAW in the last 14 years other that DP but would totally understand if those who were subject to jacked DP prices went elsewhere.
I would think your music stores would attempt to reslove the $85.00 difference.
DP is so cool it would be a shame that it would be lost to a few extra miles and a border or two.
Peace.
