I have been recording sketches for songs live onto a SOny Mini Disc MZ R37. I would now like to put them onto my G5 (into Garageband). Can anyone tell me how I go about doing this?

Plug your mini disc into your mac via a soundcard that has a stereo mic input. Open new basic track in GB. Arm for recording.(Red button on track mixer). Click record, and start your minidisc.

Thanks.

Will have to buy a sound card. Meanwhile, is there anything that can be done with the optical in/out plugs? (what are they for anyway?)

mpnow,

If your minidisc recorder has ADAT optical out, then you can use the G5 optical in to record your music. Also, if your mini disc has stereo headphone (3/8") out, you can use the audio line in jack on the G5 to get the sound into Garage Band.

The specs for that mini disc show: IN: line/optical, mic. OUT: line, headphone. There is more information available on Sony's Support Site for the R37.

Good luck.

peace,
deacon
