Howdee,

Everytime I lauch Reason, I get a crapload of .log files deposited in my Home Document's folder. This is weird, and since I'm running FileVault, the .logs are encrypted, which is weirder. Anybody got any idea why, or how I can tell Reason to save it's logs somewhere else?

Also, I've got a Rewire problem with Live 4.0.4 when running with ProTools LE 6.4 as the Host app. It tells me that the version of Live has changed and that it cannot run in slave mode unless I quit both the Host and the rewire app. Doing just this doesn't solve the problem. Any relationship between these two problems?

Here are the filenames of the items being deposited in my Home Document's folder:

ReWireDLL 050308 145452.log

And

REXDLL 050308 145444.log

Any help would be most appreciated!

Howdee!
I've scoured the forums to no avail! I need information before I can move on!

In Sept04 I got my PowerMac G5 DP 2.0 with it's stock options and added 2Gb of RAM, a FireWire PCI card, an external Lacie 160GB FW800 Drive, and an internal Western Digital 7200RPM 200Gb SATA Drive.

I am runnning Logic Express 7 and (MOSTLY) ProTools LE 6.4. My audio interface (for now anyway) is the Mighty Mighty MBox. (Originally purchased to use with my PowerBook, but now I can't afford to buy anything else - BUT when I do I think it will have to be a MOTU 828MkII)

1st - is using a SATA drive as my recording drive smart/feasible? Digidesign has nothing on their forums that makes it clear. They DO suggest recording through FW externally. What about Logic Express? SATA Ok with Logic?

2nd - Does anybody know why my SATA drive sometimes won't mount at startup? This happens ALL the time with cold starts are restarts. Wakes from sleep without a hitch, but if I restart I usually have to zap PRAM 2-3 Chimes before I get my SATA drive back.

Does this have anything to do with the Digidesign Database files that are depostited on my drives? I don't automatically start PTLE evrytime I boot, only when I need it. (as an aside, I noticed this same file set on my iPod the other day..what is that?)

Is the throughput of a SATA bus in a 1st gen PMG5 fast enough for audio recording?

SATA drives are cheaper than external FW, and I imagine that soon I'll be able to buy an external housing for it and - when it's full - move it out and put in a new one. This is a LOT cheaper than buying a new Lacie FW800 HD every time I run out of space, and more convienent than having to de-archive files when needed from optical discs, tape, etc. So I would like to be able to use these drives, and without having to go to so much trouble to mount it on my desktop!

Any help WBMA biggrin.gif

Hi,

I have a PowerBook G4 876Mhz Titanium that I bought in September of last year. I use it with an mbox and PTLE, as well as Reason, Live and a bunch of other audio stuff.

My question is this: With Apple releasing new software and new hardware every month, is my PowerBook too old already? Do I need to upgrade if I want to use Logic Express or any of the more powerful plugins? Or is this machine a good one that will serve me for another year or more before it needs to be replaced.

I'm seeing all these new G5's and aluminum 'Books and thinking I should've waited a little longer before I bought mine.

Whadya think?

Hi,
I posted something similar before and got some good feedback.
I have an MBox plugged into my TiBook (867Mhz), and I have plugged the Edirol MA-20D near-field monitors into the MBox. They sound great, so I sometimes use them as my main speakers for everything, including listening to iTunes. Here is my problem; occasionally - and I don't know what triggers it - my monitors just go nutz! I get this really loud, destructive sounding static, and I can't seem to eliminate it without shutting down the computer and re-booting. I have the monitors plugged into the 1/4" stereo jack on the back of the MBox using a 1/4 stereo to RCA cable. The same problem happens when I record, making it almost impossible to record. The speakers are new, so I could return them if they are defective, but when they are hooked up to any other device (including my 'Book's headphone jack) they work perfectly. So I guess it has something to do w/the MBox. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Hi
I am just starting my 1st HD recording project. I spent about 3 months learning my Mac, trying to learn PTLE 6, toying with my MBox.My system consists of the following: PowerBook G4 Ti (867Mhz), OS 10.3.3, PTLE 6.4, Edirol PCR-30 kybd contrl, a 250Gb USB 2 HD (via cardbus adpt.) and some MA-20D monitorz.
Now, I got everything all plugged in and running, started a new session to lay down some acoustic guit and some strings using SampleTank and when I begin to play I get this horrific static! i mean it's bad! I can't seem to quiet any of the gain stages enough to cut it out. I know I'm new at this, and maybe I don't have it set up right, but I just used the "Stereo Mix" option when I made the new session, and I haven't changed any of the Bus stuff (Don't know what that does, really) Sometimes it works for a while, then all the sudden BZZZZZZZ!!!
Anybody know what I've done wrong or how to help me?
Maybe I just need to take a ProTools class or something.
Any help would be so very appreciated! sad.gif
