I need some advice on a pair of studio monitor speakers for home use...?

Could someone post some model numbers of good value, quality speakers?

I’m thinking of two price ranges (depending if I can get a job over summer)

so could you advise me on...

a budget pair (around £300?)

a decent pair (anything under £1000)

…Thank you for the help…

Hello MessyPup,

I just bought a pair of Tapco S 5s for $349. These are active montors from the Mackie people. Quite solid souding.
A little bottom heavy, but if you put them on stands so that they don't load up, they are about right. They come set up for either Euro or US voltages. Check them out on the Mackie site. These might keep you going till you can get your big monitor.

in the 300£

Event TR5 (had some really good feedbacks on the range)
Berhinger truth
Samson resolve 80a
KRK Rokit RP5
Yamaha MSP5
Tannoy reveal active (not suited if you really need bass, not dance/club oriented)
And the tapco of course

In the 1000£

Dynaudio BM6A (love these ones)
Genelec 1030 (some have still for sell) the new equivalent is the 8040 at 520£
Adam P11A
Event SP8

There's a world in between… lots of good things in the 500-800£, you don't necessarily need to spend 1000£ wich may be also way to powerful for the place you will use them.

re tapcos5's.....I'm very pseased with mine. mind you the S5s with their sensitivity controladd yet amother variable to my setup to add to my confused grasp of mixer buss's 'control rooms' or'main out "oh my aching head fiddly! They have a tiny little control knob for the sensitivity of the monitor. I find it a pain in the ***, I just glued a bigger knob on it cannibalised from an long dead portastudio
So that's it really, tthey're nice speakers, jc
