Question for the guys using their studios professionally.

Just wanted to know from you guys. Do you prefer having the input source going through the a/d converter at the sound card or before it?

For example. Do you have your mic pres going out to a standalone converter then coming into your sound card as adat or tdif? Or are you just going into the card as audio and letting the card do the work of converting the inputs?

Hey guys, Just wondering what you would recommend for a vsti either a soft sampler or general midi sound set. I just need something with the basics (pianos, bass, drums, strings, pads, etc) and don't want to spend a ton fo bread on what is essentially just a songwriting tool.

I know what's out there. What I want to know is what you're using or would use.

Firewire has been around long enough that firewire 2 is now out. Why why why is there only a few firewire offerings for serious sound cards. The Motu 828 mk II, the M-Audio 410 and now their 1814, Edirol has the FA-101. And now Presonus has the Firepod.

You can get 8 Mic Pres In to Adat for as little as $229 from Behringer. how much more can it possibly cost to add a Firewire port to it???

And why are there not MANY other lower cost firewire i/o options available?

It looks like the Mackie Control Universal is pretty standard for many users. And you can up the number of faders by getting the extender unit. Now Tascam has a control surface with 24 faders and isn't too much more expensive than the mackie. My question is this. Can you use two of the tascam units together for a total of 48 faders?

I couldn't find any info on their website regarding cascading abilities.

Can anyone help?

Is anyone here using their macs to make something new and interesting other than 3 1/2 minute forgettable pop music?

If so, post a link
