Hi-
Problem: I try to get some audio samples (aiff) into audiodesk, for editing etc. But I don't even get them to play, or be inserted in the sequence.. angry.gif
More details: When importing, some info in the dialog box appears red ('16bit', even though the project's settings should support that. 'mp3' is red as well if I investigate on that too, as expected)
Should I (have) convert(ed) to something else (what then? how should I know?)

Excuses for such a basic question, it does seem rather simple to me too! I'm not new on recording audio, but new on the program, trying it out too maybe purchase DP5. Anything else in the program looks pretty familiar so far.

Context: I got AudioDesk with my MOTU Traveler. I'm much more accustomed with video-editing like Final Cut Pro (which has pretty extensive audio tools aswell), but want to get more into the more music-dedicated software like DP, Live etc). I basically want to try AudioDesk out, making a mashup from samples (from a song), bounced garageband-sketches (beats and some other midi lines) and recording some instruments aswell. All in a fun dance mix, for a friend's wedding (better be taught by making up a project.. wink.gif ) . But 'till now I freeze at the start, failing to import external audiofiles. Reading the manual hasn't helped much yet..!

Hi!

If I understand your problem well, here are some tips I hope you may consider of some help:

If you want to import an mp3 file in to a 16bits 44,1 or 48k Hz sequence (if any video use is planned), it has to be converted into the right format (bit resolution and sampling frequency ) which is the one of the final mixdown (i.e. 16bits and 44.1 kHz if you intend to burn an audio CD at the end of the process).

Are you sure that Audio Desk can import audio files generated under an audio format other than the usual MOTU sd2?
DP converts almost any type of audio file automatically on import, but I don't have any info on Audio Desk regarding this matter.

If it doesn't, you need to convert the mp3 file into a 16/44.1 with an audio editor such as Bias Peak.
Of course, you will not restore any of the audio data that were originally lost i n tne mp3 generation process.

Once the file properly converted, you shouldn't have audio import problems anymore provided that you insert a stereo file on a stereo track etc...
