I use a 150 Gig firewire hardrive to save all my work and it's just stopped working. The blue light still comes on and my other devices are working but it doesn't make any noise, or activate, or get recognised by the computer. I have feeling this is going to cost me money. I'm depressed.

Good Luck! I lost about 4 months of multi-tracked music from one of those drives. I payed $200 to have a pro try to extract the files. The drive only formatted itself to correct the issue. Whatever you do, back up your files from now on, on a DVD. This will never fail you, unless of course you lose the disk.
