440 Forums _ Digital Performer, AudioDesk _ Creating Music on G4,DP, OSX

Posted by: ebondf Tue 14 May 2002, 19:54

I have a Dual Processor G4. No sound card. I want to create music using my Mac. I play harmonica, recorder, acoustic guitar. I own a keyboard and I sing. I'd like to get this music into the Mac so I can 'play/edit' it. I've researched DigidDesign001 and Protools, but they apparently don't take advantage of dual processing, nor will they work with OSX. I've heard of MOTU, but don't know much about it.

I guess the main thing I need is a sound card for the Mac. In general, any recommendations on how to proceed with this quest. Thanks.

Apps and hardware for OSX are just starting to appear on the scene.

But OSX is not quite ready for prime-time.

They distribute Live by Ableton it works with OS9, OSX. The Delta series audio cards that have OSX drivers in place.

Currently all of the major players are OS9 only, Logic has announced OSX support, Steinberg sez the Mac version of CubaseSX should be here this fall.

MOTU has not made any announcements, but they are working on it.

Until all hardware, apps, and plugins are OSX ready, OS9 works fine.
