440 Forums _ Echo _ Echo Mia Doesn't Fit G5 Slot

Posted by: bloodychoir Tue 15 Mar 2005, 22:26

Hi, just tried to install an Echo Mia sound card in dual 1.8 G5 and it appears the card's plugs are in reverse configuration to the mac's pci input slots, ie. I'd have to bandg it in with a hammer. Excuse my ignorance but I assumed PCI was reasonably universal. Clearly I'm wrong. Anyone with info on the why's and wherefores of this ludicrous situation?

Welcome to the PCI-x format, it's not the slot which is reversed, it's the PCI which has evolved and your card won't work (word length and voltage question).

Now as it's written on Echo website "PCI bus mastering interface: works with PCI-X (3.3/5 volt) & Power Mac G5', So i don't understand something… unsure.gif

it's the miaMIDI that's G5 pci-x compatible... i emailed echo in regards to my MIA (non-MIDI) to see if it would fit and they said that it would not, but that i could trade in my Mia & $99US for a MIAMIDI... you should give 'em a shout if you're interested.
