Powercore + Imac. Help? Options

I currently use an intel imac 2ghz. Tried to install Powercore compact today -but was a niightmare. I'm pretty sure I followed the correct proceedures. Now -my mac will not even start if the powercore is plugged in. It works fine if it isn't (for now!)

There are only 2 firewire ports on the imac. I now -assuming I can get the powercore to function -have 3 firewire devices -namely the said Powercore - a Focusrite Saffire interface and a Carillion hard drive?

Any suggestions -or have I just wasted £350 and put the life of my imac in jeapordy ??

Best suggestion: Plug the Powercore into its own FireWire port. Plug the Saffire into the other iMac FireWire port. Plug the hard drive into the "daisy chain" FireWire port on the Saffire ... FireWire is a "pure" peer to peer topography, each device has equal "weight", equal "value" on the chain of devices. The PowerCore is probably power hungry and data transfer sensitive to such things as hubs in the line between itself and the master computer. The hard drive is not as sensitive to this sort of thing.

With all external FW devices disconnected, run the Disk Utility program in the Applications / Utilities / directory to "re think" the permissions on all of your files ... then:

1st) Powercore only ... does it work now? Try reinstalling all drivers and software. Note that like some printers and some scanners, the Powercore may require a complete uninstall of its software before a re-install will work. (Unplug, uninstall, re-install, plug in when told to do so or when everything is re-installed.)

2nd) If above is now working, add the Saffire (and do the same re-install of drivers & software, etc.).

3rd) The hard drive install is last, but not least. ... usually no software or drivers required, unless you have special backup software, which should be avoided in this case = let OSX do its thing instead ...
