Imac G5-1.8 + 1gig ram
Protools LE 6.4 Digi002
Motorola cable modem

I have been using my imac since new for tracking with protools le. And it works fine. good track count and performance.

Except after i use the internet or email.

heres the typical scenario:

Im on-line or typing emails. and then log off. turn off the modem... feel creative and want to work on some tracks in PT LE. turn on 002 ok. try to start Protools... it doesnt open! but says that it has crashed unexpectantly.

I can then shut down the computer, restart, and protools works fine. as long as i dont turn on the modem or go on-line first.

Its a frustrating problem. that slows me down.

has anyone experienced anything similar?
or have any ideas and/or solutions?

Thanks for you help

Darren

Mhmm time to open the .log files in the Console

Do this right after a crash and copy here the last entries (check the time of the crash). It'll help.

As a prevention, I'd use onyX and do some maintenance to level things on that side (permissions, optimize system, BSD scripts, trashing system and user caches, trashing virtual memory file) and restart immediately after OnyX has done it (it'll ask anyway).

Tell us what the console says (both for the system and PT, 2 different files to read)

If the Console is slow to death, use BBedit for exemple or any text editor to open the .log files which are in:

~/library/logs/
~/library/logs/crashreporter (ConsoleMessage.crash.log)
~user/yourlogin/library/logs/
~user/yourlogin/library/logs/crashreporter (there should be PT there)

Check for PT, the DAE maybe, the console itself and any app you may run at the times of the crashes. As I don't run PT I can't tell for sure the place and the names but they will be there. it'll be enlightening (or very very confusing wink.gif
