Hi!
Surely it's possible to route audio from Software (in my case Reason) to more outputs on an 828 MkII than just the Main Out 1/2?! I've a PA connected to Main Out 1/2 and my monitors in Analog 1/2: So, at the moment, I can only listen to Reason audio through the PA and it's doing my head in! hope someone-anyone!!!- can help! Cheers. |

This question came up before... At the time, I attempted to send the sound out using chanel 1 and chanel 2 as aditional main outs. I could not seem to get it to work (could be the confusion created when trying to change things in a complex setup.). I know that chanel 7 and 8 outs can be used as a through for the mic /guitar ins.... Personally, to avoid undue confusion, I just use the head phone jack as an additional stereo out.

Thanks for that... *sigh* Does seem like an appalling oversight on MOTU's part, don't you think?!

Actually, it can be done, I just have not been successfull at it. My 828 is jammed in a rack with a ton of other rack mounted toys. It is rather difficult for me to access the back pannel of the 828, which means I don't get to experement much. However, in the 828 manuel on pages 55 and 75 there are instructions for assigning the outputs of the 828. Give them a go and let us know how it goes.

I tried this many times and couldn't get it. I wanted to use 3-4 outputs for a standard stereo to A/B music.
Total trainwreck....so I gave up. I would hope there is a way to do this though. -------------------- www.tbmmusic.com

Well, I've got as far as using the analog outs for audio out of my music software; in my case, Ableton Live and Reason. Went into Output configs on each and did a bit of Preferences changing (out 3/4 for 1/2 on the MOTU, and so on). Can't seem to get it to play out of more than one pair of outputs at once, but it does mean, in my case, I can switch from playing out of my monitors to playing out of my PA... some success at least!

See, guys, THIS is what I want to be doing, using my MOTU, Ablteton Live and a Line 6 XT Pro guitar box (here's an extract from the Line 6 manual):
"Re-Amping with PODxt Pro: Connect the rear panel Unprocessed Guitar Out to an analog input of your recording device, and route it to a record track. This is the signal you will be recording so that it can be used for re-amping during mixdown. Connect the monitor output from this record track that’s received the unprocessed guitar signal to the rear panel Line In jack of PODXT Pro. PODXT Pro is now ready to process the signal that’s received at the Line In... Now, as you mix, you can adjust the guitar tone to your heart’s content. Turn up the Drive a little, back off on the Chorus—heck, change the Amp Model and use a different modeled microphone selection. When you are ready to commit a processed sound to a track, you can record the left and right analog or digital outputs of the PODXT Pro to your recording system. " Are we saying there's no way I can do this using the 828mkII? Live doesn't appear to see the Phones as a possible output for the unprocessed guitar track, only the main outs and analog outs, only one of which the MOTU allows me to pick!!! Is there no way out of this?! |

Yes you can do it!
QUOTE You can even create separate monitor mixes for the main outs, headphones and other outputs. Control everything from the included CueMix Console™ software or directly from the 828mkII’s front-panel. The above quote is taken directly from the Motu web-site. Note the passus about the Cuemix console. You'll need to download the fire-wire driver from Motu:s website, if you haven't already got it. You must install the fw-driver and choose the alternative install for 828-Mk-II. Make sure the Cuemixconsole gets installed as well. Consult your manuals As last resort contact Motu tech-support - they may not be very quick with their replies - however they usually respond. I have the Mk-I 828. thats hardwired without this option. What I do is create a couple of Aux-tracks in Digital performer. These Aux-tracks I use for monitoring outputs 3/4 and 5/6 and 7/8. QUOTE As Input to lets say Aux-track1 - I chosee Motu 828 outs 3/4. As Output in Aux-track1 I choose Motu outs 1/2. Although a bit clumsy it works out ok for me. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================
