hi,

are you talking about a TCD-D8? walkman type ,black body DAT recorder??
if so,there should be a switch on the side to select.

I am not sure about the TCT-D8. Do you mean the TCD-D8? I managed to find a copy of the manual on amazon of all places.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...799943?v=glance

I think there is a SP/LP switch (short play / long play) on the side. Normally SP is 48 KHz and LP is 44.1 KHz.

Hope this helps.

Thank's a lot for this link.
Unfortunately, my DAT is the TCT-D7 and there is a difference with the D8 : the little switch on the side off the device is "LP-SP" (two positions) only.

But the user guide shows two sample rates (44,1 and 48). I guess it's only recognizing whenever the rate is one or the over, but probably can't be set for recording.

hi

well, one of the differences is that the D8 has actually 3 modes i remember,48,44,and 32,the D7 (the grey one with the red record button) has only two.
you can set the recording sample rate with the switches ,that is their purpose, when playing back, the dat will recognize the tape's sampling rate automatically.don't forget to assign the recording type to 'manual' ,otherwise if you have any radical drop on the dynamics of the material ,it will separate it.
good luck!
