I got a good deal on the Logic 5 big box, with intention to use it on OSX. I was aware of the free upgrade to 5.5 which is OSX native. That works fine but none of the bundled plugins/instruments work. Are these not OSX compatible yet, or did I waste my money on plugins I will never be able to use? I can't even run the install for them because I don't have OS9 installed under OSX, I don't even have an OS9 CD.

You should have no problem using the ES-1 synth, which is built into Logic. As for the plugs (EVP73 and EXSP24), I have yet to hear any concrete evidence, but it sounds like emagic might be porting these to Audio Units format, at which point you could get them for OSX for free. Check out this thread for more info. (the 'free' part is towards the end). Your other option is to pay for an upgrade to the EVP88 and EXS24mkII, which run as part of Logic.
Either way, you didn't waste your money, because the Big Box is cheaper than purchasing Logic Audio alone. Plus you get the ES-1 and the Xtreme Analog sample cd. |

I use them in OS9, bounce to audio, then reopen the session in OSX. At least untill the AU versions are released. -------------------- G-Dub

If anyone's still searching for this info as I was, Emagic still haven't updated these plugs - I just got Logic Big Box (Audio v 6.3.1) and they still don't work in OSX. A little bit miffed with Apple-owned Emagic on this.
Nonetheless, like Xingu says, I guess it was still cheaper than buying Audio on its own. But come on Emagic - do a good job for us. Otherwise, great product. |

ummm, you might have missed the boat! They released the osx versions months ago packaged together as the Player Edition - I think I got mine late spring/early summer. But you had to contact emagic (or your local emagic distributor) directly to get the free upgrade.
Strange that your new purchase didn't have the right stuff. I'd get in touch with your emagic rep and see if they'll send you the OSX versions. Just not sure if they're still offering them as none of the plugs seem to be available individually since the announcement of Logic Express/Pro. |

Yingtong, I don't know what you mean. I bought the Big Box at MacWorld three weeks ago, and all the mentioned plugs are included for OS X.

Ditto, I just got a Big Box with OSX plugs included. Dunno exactly what i'm gonna do with them, but they look like fun!
Xingu, Thanx for the tip. You were right. So far, Logic Works great with my 428. I'm listening to my stuff in iTunes now. And I only got it two days ago! Barely creased the manual. jimtwister This post has been edited by SomeWhereInTheMiddle: Fri 30 Jan 2004, 07:16 |

hmm... I was pondering this situation this past weekend. I have been using Logic and ESX24 in OS9 for about a year and was thinking about getting the Big Box package to move to OSX but I am not gonna bother if I can't use my ESX24 or the other plugs that come with Big Box under OSX.
I guess it depends where you buy your Big Box package from... some retailers probably still have old stock while others have new packages. Funny things is I reformated my HD on my Tibook when I upgraded to 10.2.8 and I reinstalled 9.2.2 and now I can't seem to get my Logic apps to run in OS9 (not classic) on my laptop. Its driving me nutz This post has been edited by Synthetic: Mon 2 Feb 2004, 17:45 -------------------- ----------------------------------------

Just make sure you get the Logic6 version, they shipped with the AUs. Took about a week for mine to arrive. -------------------- G-Dub
