I'm using a MOTU 828 (original) with a G5 a pair of Samson Resolv 50a monitors. Often I hear a squelching noise in my monitors and it's pretty annoying. It's a low crackle with a little squelch every second or so. What is causing this and can I fix it? I've heard that the 828 power supplies can be noisy. I'm using decent cables. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you may be one of the unfortunate to get the PSU-related noises, they seem to propagate through both usb-firewire & maybe even the spdif ports.

wow. you guys are great. thanks so much for the help! apple should have checked out these noisy power supplies...i would be okay with it if it didn't show up through my firewire port and out into my 828 and then into my monitors...they hype this machine at being hot for audio and thus noise like this is inexcusable. i hope that i can get it worked out, and dual 2.0 G5 owners beware and take heed....this is something that should be fixed unquestionably for free. there should be no price paid for owning the most recent machine!!
