440 Forums _ Analogue Synths _ M-audio Radium61 Doesn't Transmit

Posted by: fastlanephil Tue 16 Nov 2004, 05:06

My Radium61 quit transmitting. It won't show up with Apple's audio/midi utility. I tried a different cable but same problem. It is getting power from my iBook and will transmit midi from it's midi out port with my Midiman 2x2. I emailed M-Audio but haven't gotten a response yet. I was just wondering if any one else has had this problem. I recently upgraded my OS to 10.3.6 and am thinking maybe the M-Audio drivers need some tweaking.

When it comes to M-Audio, if it works DO NOT UPGRADE OS! M-Audio is the worst at keeping up with drivers that actually work... Thats why I have gone exclusivly to MOTU for all my external needs... Might want to try the MOTU FastLane USB interface.. It would go well with your handle!

I have 11 Keystation 61 and one Oxygen in my MIDI Lab at school. I have had to send 2 of the Keystations back to M-Audio for the very same problem you are having. The only reason I haven't purchased more Radiums is because they keep breaking. M-Audio need to get their crap together.

The Radium61 is broken and i'm taking it to the music store where I purchased it for send in repair. It's still under warranty. I have a Yamaha Clavinova grand also so no real down time(and my old Roland RD-250 in the closet). I've had the Midiman 2X2 for about 5 years and no problems with it. Maybe M-Audio is going too cheap. I had my I on M-Audio's new pro-88 but maybe i'll wait for some user feed back on it.

so would everyone not recommend this product?

I had my Radium 61 replaced and the new one is still working. The store where I purchased it hasn't seen any others come back for repair so it's probably as reliable as other keyboard controllers.

I have 21 of them in a lab at my school and one at home and haven't had a problem with any of them. There is however, a problem with the driver. When changing configurations in Audio/MIDI setup, you lose the Radium's midi interface (grays out). You have to quit all MIDI programs and A/M setup to get it back.

so there are no real hardware problems?

I'll have to second "Kaboombachuck".

M-Audio has a slight tarnished reputation for late and broken drivers.
Check other forums for this Macosx-audio and Unicornation.

I use Motu-stuff exclusively I have had no problems what so ever.

Try to upgrade to Mac OS-X 10.3.7 - but check M-Audio:s
website first for latest drivers.
Be prepared to back down to 10.3.5 if things doesnt work out
