Beginner Interface

Yo i have a 1.25 gHz imac with 256 ddr sdram - ive been recording using the iMic to plug in my gutar and my mates digital drum kit for a while now but the quality is just terrible to be honest - whats the next step up - i know i need an interface to plug stuff into the computer but i can cope with only one input as we have no intention to record our stuff all at once - we all guna do our bits over the drum track one at a time - im on a budget and have noidea where to look - any help??

Better Bass Techniques? And Mix Down Prob

yo, ive been recording a demo for my band using pro tools free and an imic - we've been feeding everything through a P.A system and the results are amazing quality, apart from the bass, see our bassist plays a 6 string funk slap style bass lines he does the same amount of low notes as he does high notes - thing is on the recording the high notes are really noticble but the low notes arent - i could boost the gain and this makes the low notes sound much better but the high ones like complete shit - so is there anyway i could boost the gain of the low end ofthe track more than the high end? how? maybe i could use a different recording technique: at the moment we are using a line out - into the pa - into my mac - would it be better quality if we mic'd up the amp instead????

also in pro tools how do u mix down some tracks , but not all of them - see we have our vocals spread over three tracks , which witheverything else takes up three tracks - so how do i select these tracks and mix them down into just one track? so i can make room for the others??

Two Problems....

ok, this first question is for all the people who have used imics to record anything that involves more than one track....

Ive recorded my band playing through my imic, and it sounds amazing, but when my singer goes to overlay the vocal track - there is a delay so he thinks he is in time, when in fact he isnt at all??I figure this is something to do with the USB not being fast enough (just a guess). How can we solve this, is theer a possibility that we could work out the delay and shift the tracks across in pro tools or something to make them in time???

Ok question number two, i have a two track recording in protools and i choose bounce to disk - but it only turns the first track into an AIFF file, not the others - is there a possible way to like mix the tracks down (like in photoshop when you choose merge visible (only the ones u can hear) or flatten image (the whole lot)). if so, umm whereis it, Ive looked everywhere. If thats not he solution how do i bounce to disk my entire recording - with all tracks playing with each other, etc, etc.

Completely Stuck

right here goes, me and my band want to record a demo that we can turn into mp3's.... Im using an new ibook and have no idea about where to start - i looked at some software and as soon as im ready im pretty sure i'll download the desk light trial for editing, etc. We want to record our tracks seperatly as well so we can edit them in the computer - thing is how the fuck do i get these sounds into my computer 0n a tight (very tight) budget? i have usb and firewire on my ibook so im assuming ill need some kinda connector box that will conect to a normal mic lead and will send the info thru one of these ports??? i only really need one mic lead type input because we have a PA system at the studio we jam at so we can mic the drums up with loadsa mics then set the levels on the pa and take a wire out of the pa into whatever i am using to connect to my computer??! but what do i use? ive searched the net but all i can come up with are biiig home studio expensive things when this is not what i need at all - just something that will let me plug a mic into it that will allow me to record the audio in my mac ??? so can someone help me and tell me what i need any advice - steps - suitable products- anything would be of help - cheers
