I'm using s new iBook with protools free and am able to record from all my instruments but haven't found a way to get good vocals. I have a shure mic but can't get a signal with that (even with an iMic). Any suggestions. Do i have to buy a pre-amp? Thanks!

The level is too low (mic level), you'll need a preamp to have a better audio level, compatible with your audio in (line level).
