I bought some 2.1 speakers and got an iMic for the simple purpose of being able to use them on my iMac. Anyway, I got my iMic today and decided to just use some PC speakers I had lying around to test it. I plugged in the PC speakers I had and played a song through iTunes. The sound quality seemed pretty poor to me (very little bass and not a lot of volume) so I tried another set that were a little better. I had the same problem. I plugged in my stock iMac speakers and sure enough the sound from them way far better with richer sound and bass, with louder volume. Is this a problem I should have expected from the iMic or did I do something wrong. Also, is there a better option for my purposes that isn't a ton of money? Thanks.

Well it could just be the speakers?

Did you try plugging in your apple speakers to the imic?

To compare try plugging in some headphones directly to your computer and then do a comparison when they are plugged into the imic.

You need headphones of which you can recognise the sound characteristics though..
