Interestingly, in the leap from Mac OS X 10.2 to 10.3, Apple still had not populated the Manufacturer and Model menus for Properties in the MIDI section of the Audio MIDI Setup utility. I wonder if they will include Manufacturer and Model lists, perhaps in the form of "MIDI Description Files", much like they do with obsolete printers listed with Printer Description Files. That would be cool!

From what I heard it may have some kind of "cluster" software where multiple macs can be connected via firewire (I guess), to share resources, CPU, etc.

I have a laptop connected to a cine display and want to get a new G5 when they are updated (?) but don't want to loose the two monitors which is what would happen if I plug the G5 to the cine. I asked someone who should know and they said "soon" this software rewritten by Apple is coming out that is simlar to software that was used to connect the G5 X-Serve super computer, well over a hundred G5s clustered (maybe a thousand) at that university not long ago. This will make it possible to fully control the G5 from my laptop.

Maybe it will have m-LAN too, that would be sweet, although I think m-LAN needs hardware.

I'm always excited about OS upgrades, but this one really smells of milking the Mac loyals via their tech hunger. Jaguar and Panther and now Tiger? How long has it been? Instead of another pricey upgrade, how's about just including the Tiger features in a Panther update? I think charging for the thing is a bit HMO of Apple. Kind of abusing the loyalty of the Mac faithful. Mac can't be a computer of the people, if the people can only afford to upgrade Windows machines. Anti productive, long term, I think.

damon, truer words were never spoken.

OS X has will now have cost an early adopter close to $500. this way madness lies.

my own particular escape has been to purchase a new mac every year (the new OS) and sell off one old one, but it puts money in apple's pocket too.

in any case, for spritely operation OS X requires all the hardware you can throw at it.
