I've got a Digi001 breakout box with my G4 and i can't get it to send/receive MIDI signals to my computer. Am I missing something? settings or whatever?

That's all there really is to it. I've set up OMS and i keep getting a message to turn off AppleTalk, which i do. The computer won't really recognize the sound card because when you set sound output settings in 'Reason', there is only sound manager default or no sound. Reason runs fine, i just can't use any MIDI.

I have experience with 'Unity DS-1' and your problem is with 'Reason'. That is what I mean by 'specific'.

dude!!! did you find help yet? i am having the same problem!

i just purchased my first protools product, digi 001.

> > i am running a blu and white G3 that has been upgraded to G4 w/ via expansion
chasis. 500mb ram, 30gb system drive, 40gb firewire ata external for audio.

> > I have a Kaysound MK-4902 MIDI Controller keyboard going into the 001

> > i want to use REASON 1.0 by propellerhead software as my sound instrument,
routed from the audio out of the computer via stereo plug, to Digi 001. not
interested in using as a sequencer, which it ships with.

(hopefully this is a Protools question and not a REASON question.)

since Reason and ProTools seem to have some similar features such as mixing and
sequencing, what i aim to do is use midi through pro tools to access sounds and
effects in reason.

i am a beginner here and appreciate any support or referral you have!

I recommend using the IAC Driver.

The IAC Driver is a virtual MIDI cable, which is used for communication between two OMS-compatible MIDI applications, e.g. Reason.

To re-install the IAC Driver, start the OMS Installer. Then select the option „Custom Install“ and choose the entry „IAC Driver“.

In your sotware (eg. Reason) select the midi output as IAC Driver and in ProTools select the midi input as IAC Driver. You should be able to then record midi in ProTools with sounds from other software synths (eg. Reason). Hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that Reason and the sound driver for Digi 001 are not compatible. You can use Reason and the midi inputs and outputs on the DIGI 001 though. The sound will work to a point... once the sound becomes complex with many modules or using the subtractor synth.... the sound output becomes horrible using sound out from the Digi 001 (but you can output to aiff while using the Digi setup and the aiff file will be much more clear than what is revealed in the monitor ouputs or headphone output. Reason seems to work best with the Digi drivers not loaded and using only sound manager.

Also, did you run the test in OMS setup that determines whether you are getting a signal or not? Also, make sure you have the right port setup and never have I used the IAC driver option and it worked for me. Also make sure that you have the Digi 001 selected as main inputs and outputs in the control panel that Digidesign uses with latest veriosn of PT LE. I was using my Yamaha CS6x synth keyboard to control many things in Reason with no problems. I was even able to use the control knobs to adjust filters etc.

Sounds like you need to install OMS, it manages Midi for Digidesign systems.

It should be on your Pro Tools disc.
