I am getting glitches during playback , with no live instrumetns plugged in. I have tried different buffer settings in the control panel window and it does nothing? Could it be the firewire cable or something else?

The files are on which drive?
The 896 is used for monitoring?
Do you use wordclock whatever?

(just wondering…)

I have an internal 40 gig drive as well I use to hold all my audio files. The 896 is used as my audio interface and the audio out is going int o my power amp that drives the monitors.

I use the internal sync on the control panel of the Firewire.

Well as far as I know first reason outside some software/hardware glitch is the fact you use the same drive for the system and audio…

The glitches could be the times when the Mac has to retrieves some things for the system and the buffers don't compensate the samples missing…

You can still try another cable if you have one, but I don't believe it's that. What is the software you are using? in case someone has a better idea…

The software is Logic Audio 5.5

This only started after I moved the Studio to do some remote recording. The G4 is only a few months old.

Have you upgraded part of the system (carbon extension for example?) I found something related but on X… unsure.gif

Another cause can be an inadequate locking between Logic and the 896. Have you tried to fiddle with the sample frequency of recording?

I emailed MOTU and they said to try to re-install the driver or upgrade. I did and it did nothing. They also said to try different firewire ports on the MAC and the MOTU device. Well that worked!!! The other option was a new cable.

mhmm Should have thought of that, you have the same problem xith the 424 card you must connect the 2408 for example to the 1st firewire port of the card, else it bugs…

MOTU should be explicit on this. Anyway, great it works smile.gif
