Hi

I need an very portable ( ie not nor standard size external hard drive eg ice cube) that has
FW 800. 7200 rpm, 100+ gigs and can be powered by usb from the computer.

I record on the go and intend to have my software on my macbook pro and my sample sounds (bfd, mach five etc) on the very portable hard drive. I've searched the internet shops with little luck

Any ideas/reccomendations

Thanks!

Ade

Well Hitachi has new 200GB 7200RPM laptop drives. You could have that installed in your computer and do a partition of your internal drive, or if you are definitely wanting an external you could probalby find a nice SATA case for it. I'm sure there are bus powered ones.

I'm happy with my Lacie Rugged drive. Very portable, bus powered, FW800 & 400, 150GB, available in 7200rpm. Very nice but, a bit pricey. It also has a USB 2.0 miniplug port but, I've never used it.

Beware of bus powered drives - if you lose power during use, you stand a very high chance of losing the drive and/or your data. has happened to me in varying situations and with lacie drives. still, it is a very tempting combo when you are sure of your power supply.
