HI, I know this has probably been discussed somewhere at some time, but I am curious about which monitor today's engineers prefer and why. The monitors in particular are the Dynaudio Bm6a's and ADAM's equal in the size and price range...
Pop/Rock music in a medium sized room
thanks

Hi
I just took delivery of a pair of Adam S3As and an Adam Sub12 - what a difference the sub makes!
Also - make sure you have really good stands for them too, as the frequency response can be so drastically different. I've got some Quested stands.
I've bought China Cones for them too - but haven't yet implimented them...

Cheers

Dynaudio, good all-rounder, good stereo, not tiring, but depending of the room, the BM15a may be better.
ADAM, pin point sound (transients to kill), good stereo, though the midfield are preferred. Their revealing tendency can be surprising. They a used in some mastering facilities. The most interesting part of the ADAM range is more expensive than the BM6a.

if I had the BM6a budget, I'd go BM6a, ADAM is a better contender in the bigger models (sub no more mandatory). Now the new models may be better suited for competition. But as they were new at frankfurt, I've got to hear them still, maybe at the AES in Paris.

Check the Focal too (I have yet to hear them but they're battling ground with ADAM, can't stop hearing about them)

I think that's really a matter of personal taste and also I don't know of any engineers that limit themselves to only one set of monitors.

The ADAM and Dynaudio are both excellent brands of monitors and while Dynaudio is probably best known for their unforgiving detail, the ADAM are well known for their nice midrange and smooth hi-range sound. Either one of these will give you no more opportunity to blame a bad mix on the monitors (of course you can always say that the room is lousy! :-))

And while you can talk a lot about sound, it's always best to just listen for yourself.

Good luck!

I do not know about ADAM monitors, but I do have a pair of Dynaudio monitors, and they are totally incredible, in their definition, precise, and pure flat quality. I mainly do alternative Christian music, but I think they would work great for any genre of music. On a 1-10 scale, I would have to give them a strong 9-10. If I had to do it again, I would purchase them again.

Good Luck In Your Selection!

Allen

I may add, Focal rocks! (heard them since wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

Right now, I'd go buy some monitors it'll be still in these contenders.
