I just downloaded the latest US-428 driver from Tascam.com. i can control SX 2 now fine.
however, im now faced with a new problem.
"Beach Ball of Death" (as some sx users called it) keeps interupting the work flow and hangs for a while then in some cases it crashes the program.
in the begining i was not sure what was causing the Ball to appear systematicaly every few min. it only stoped appearing after i turned off US-428. Now i dont even bother using the US-428 since I only used it to control sx2. not worth the delay.
BTW: im using OS 10.2.8 and the latest sx update.
so im not sure if there is a general problem with SX and USB audio devices.

How much RAM have you?
it may be OSX working on the swap file on the disk because he doesn't have enough RAM…
How the Tascam is plugged? Directly?

Are the files and the system on the same drive?

It may be something else (driver, full moon, NASDAQ), but I'm giving ideas in case…

RAM: 610mb
the Tascam is plugged into Griffin usb hub for audio. not direct.

the audio files are on external drive and system is on internal drive

cubase sometimes will lose connection with osx core midi after a minute of beach ball spinning. not sure if this is related to the us-428 . however this does not happen when working without connecting us-428.

thnx

First thing to try is plugging direct. I know that Griffin hub was designed specifically for audio, but I do remember back when the Tascam forums were around that the general advice was to avoid using a hub of any kind. I have no problems with my 428 for control, audio and MIDI using only 384RAM.

thnx Xingu,

I will try that however, i f the G4 keyboard and us-428 has to be directly connected, then should i connect the usb hub into the keyboard or the cinemadisply for example? would that be a sufeicient signal to run the turbo mouse & contour shuttle.

not sure about the shuttle, but i can tell you i run my iMac G4 keyboard and a logitech optical mouse through a hub (as well as sound sticks, digital camera, XSKey, and printer). if you're having conflicts, it's best also to turn off any devices you don't need while using the 428.
