hi
i have been having some trouble with my digi001/protools Le system and was wondering if anybody could help...was working on my g4 and the finder application froze and i had to manually shut down the computer...the next time started up the computer all i got was a blinking question mark...looked in the manual and found that i had to boot from the system disk, which i did but protools was gone...i bought norton utilities and it found protools again but it can`t find DAE...fast find can find the DAE folder but when i try to open it it says it can`t find something called "MultiShellCode" - anyone know anything about that? i`m a little bit disappointed with the system cos i thought that even if the computer did crash i wouldn`t lose access to protools itself... I`d really like to avoid this in the future - does anyone have any advice for me? thanks for any help... ted |

Start from scratch ! Reinstall PT, Reinstall DAE. Otherwise, you might finally get it to work, for a while, but it will probably be very unstable and unreliable...
Reinstall is easy...and safe. -------------------- |

I am a real newbie to Pro Toolls but no stranger to Macs.
That said, after two weeks of trying to get... MBox/PT OMS DAE Performer FreeMidi Yamaha S08 keyboard (with no patch names files) plus an Airport Card for my wireless LAN ...to all communicate and run concurrently, I would advise you to find a minimal "extension set" you can use to run PTools and whatever else you need on at the same time and save that set as PRoTolls sessions in the Extension Manager and don;t mess with it ever again. Just my opinion. you mileage may vary. Tommy |

I have to admit I've never runned into such problems... I certainly had crashes in the past but have never "lost" PT (or any other app.). Seems weird to me... When you say Norton was able to find it...where exactly did it find it?...Also where was the DAE folder gone... I mean, if you had experienced a "real" crash and had to reinstall everything from scratch (fresh OS, reinitialize drive...), PT & DAE would be gone for good...seems weird that there were "lost" but could be found again...more infos?...

ok
after the computer didn`t restart correctly and the blinking question mark appeared I reinstalled the OS. that I have learned is apparently not a "crash", just the system not being able to recognize the HD for some reason. Maybe there is another way of recovering your setup without this kind of drastic overhaul but I`m not sure of what that is - as I`m a beginner! So the manual recommended using the system disc to boot from and when I did that most of my stuff came back but I looked everywhere for protools and couldn`t find it...then i ran norton disk doctor and it "found " lots of stuff that I thought I had "lost" - mp3 folders, limewire, and a protools icon appeared! so i clicked on that and it just said that DAE could not be found...I managed to find the DAE folder but then that wouldn`t open...all this stuff was still on the main HD....is that enough info? ted |

QUOTE (tedretro @ Aug 5 2002, 01:15) ...all this stuff was still on the main HD....is that enough info? ted Not sure...If, as you say, "stuffs" were still on the main HD...then it wasn't lost...at all...they were exactly where they're supposed to be(?...)...Was the DAE folder still in the System folder?... Are you sure that all you've lost during the process is not just the alias created for PT (that's usually automaticaly created on the desktop during installation...)?... Regarding the "blinking question mark" problem, it's not really directly related to a drive trouble (well it might also be) but means that the Mac can't find the System folder!!! The cause for this can be multiple and are indeed often related to the drive hosting the system folder (though I've once witnessed this problem in a studio I was working in...an assistant had put the system folder in the trash...and had emptied it ...). Would you happen to have SCSI drive connected to the Mac?... -------------------- |

The DVerb plug is usually located on a separate CD when you buy PT.
If you don't have that CD, it might still be somewhere on your drive (if you're really lucky)->try perform a Sherlock search (If you haven't already done that...). Good to know your PT is up and running!... See ya... -------------------- |
