I'll try to state a question from my father...

He has
- a Powermac 7600
- Opcode Studio 64X
- and a lot of other machines ("behind" Opcode)

Now he has got a G3 Blue and White and tried to connect his Opcode with Mac via KeySpan.
He uses Logic with dongle (Mac has a connector for it). Logic plays the music, but it seems that Opcode doesn't receive anything.

Could anybody help us? I've just read a lot of articles, and I think it should work...

9.2

2.31

Thanks for the question - I have an idea now. My father and his friend _transferred_ the old hard disk into the new computer because he has Logic only on floppies. He should _install_
OMS... or I should visit him... cool.gif

OS should be 9.22 (9.2 has bugs)

OMS is 2.38 for a loooooooong time now… try the updates (for some configs 2.37 is better…)

be carefull with OMS it is touchy with 9.2, really. Next is to update the system in case… uninstall the audio drivers everything around MIDI, install OMS reinstall everything

and keep trying to make the config in OMS it is really capricious sometimes.

Be sure to use the last keyspan software.

hope it'll work (it's all common knowledge, not specific, so it may not be that… huh.gif unsure.gif

opsss...

>OMS is 2.38 for a loooooooong time now… try the updates (for some configs 2.37 is better…)

I've just downloaded a new version from www.opcode.com with the number 2.3.8 (?).
I can test it only at my father's computer (there
are only Windows and Unix machines around
me :-( )

>Next is to update the system in case… uninstall the
>audio drivers everything around MIDI, install OMS >reinstall everything

This is what I will do next!

>and keep trying to make the config in OMS it is really capricious sometimes.

I've heard a lot of similar stories in the past few
years... but it worked fine!

>Be sure to use the last keyspan software.

I'll download it, too,...

>hope it'll work (it's all common knowledge, not
>specific, so it may not be that… huh.gif unsure.gif

Thanks... I'll report what happens...

I don't think this adapter is going to work.

The serial ports on a mac look like the ones shown on this device.

http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA28x/

however I wouldn't guarantee this will work either.

The device you have shown is for a PC style RS-232 connector.
The Opcode does have PC style serial port however I believe this is only for connecting to a PC, not a mac.

The only devices that I know to succesfully work well on a mac are ones such as
http://geethree.com/p_stealth.html

I know this one works as I had one with a B/W G3 and an Opcode Studio 4

Further to my previous post, the keyspan USA-28x twin serial adpter

http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA28x/

lists the following in regards to MIDI.

The Keyspan USB Twin Serial Adapter supports the following MIDI clocking modes: x1, x16, x32, and x64. This means that if you have a MIDI device that uses any of these clocking modes, your MIDI device should work with the Keyspan USB Twin Serial Adapter.

However, due to the different implementations of the MIDI standard, some devices may not compatible with the USB Twin Serial Adapter. Please contact your MIDI device and/or software manufacturer for compatibility of their products with the USB Twin Serial Adapter or contact Keyspan for more information.
