I just saw a real-world attempt by someone to convert some of her Akai CD programs to Soundfont 2 format (for loading into Reason and Unity) using CDxtract 4.
CDxtract 4 merrily performed the conversion without complaint or indication of any problem. Then she tried to load the converted .sf2 files in various programs that support Soundfonts: 1. Reason: Crashed every time she attempted to load one. 2. Unity Session: Although the files had the right extension, and even Unity icons, they were greyed out in Unity's file browser; it didn't recognize them as Soundfonts. 3. VSamp: Attempted to process the files, but stopped and complained that they didn't contain all the necessary resources. Strike three. Anybody else had any better result? (This was posted in "Music with Macintosh on MacOS 9" because CDxtract 4 ONLY runs in 9.x--not even Classic mode. But the other programs were run in OS X. Don't we need another Forum category?) |
