I'm a guitar beginner and would like recommendations on software (retail, shareware, freeware) that will help me. I've found Guitar Shed and it look great, but can anyone recommend other programs to help me on my way?

also go to www.cyberfret.com and www.wholenote.com they have wonderfull lessons on there I think.

and i personally don't think software is neccesary.

either go get real lessons or try out those sites, (to me they're the next best thing)

oh and depending on where you are in your guitar journey I'll give you a semi cronologiical order of what you should learn.

1. learn the string numers and frets and what everthing on your guitar is.

2. learn to read chord charts.

3. learn to read tablature (I'd also suggest learning to read actual music but that can discourage MANY guitar players as I belive it's the toughest instrument to sight read on)

3. learn to play chords, VERY cleanly, no buzz.

4. learn to switch chords.

5. learn some power chords and barre chords.

6. rock out to the tabs on www.mxtabs.net

7. learn the pentatonic scale. then learn the major scale and minor scale and try to learn modes if you can (that'll take you a while)

8. learn some music theory (I.E. chord construction, scales modes, diatonic chord progressions, voice leading and so on)

well that should keep you busy for a while (a couple years I bet)

but if I we're you I'd say screw the software cause I've tried it all and it blows.

(oh and Amazing Slow Downer is for transciptions which is an ok program)

well have a good one
