I've searched the forums on this, but haven't quite found the answer I need.
I'm looking to spend between $150 and $180 on an external firewire drive to use for live audio recording and MIDI sequencing. It's just me, so tracks would be recorded one at a time, with (maybe) 6-12 tracks of simultaneous playback. Would be used with an eMac + Mbox & PT LE + MOTU 2x2 MIDI interface
Now, I've been reading that generally, external firewire drives aren't optimized for audio recording. I have no idea whether this is true.
I'm just looking for a ressonably-priced (meaning, "not Glyph," I think) HD that I can dedicate to recording that won't choke up on me. Lacie? EZQuest? Fantom? Other?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanx,
--IW

Both Maxtor and La Cie makes external fw-drives. You should look for models that have the "ultra ata/ide-133 7200 rpm" drives inside their enclosures.
You should also check the for the Oxford 911-chip set and also for the latest drivers/firmware to your harddrive.
When the first problems with fw-hd:s we're reported it was one of the Oxfordchipsets that we're the culprit I think it was the 912.
(but try to check this to play it safe - I have an external Maxtor 5000DV - I have used it for 6 months witout any trouble - although I DONT use it for audiorecording - mostly backup:s etc)
Most vendors has since then updated their drvrs/firmware to rectify issues reported.
