Hey everyone! I am a recent Mac convert, and this site is helping A LOT! smile.gif

I have a new 17'' G4 Powerbook, couple months old. It has Jaguar 10.2.7, but came with the Panther discs. Being new to Mac, I decided to hold off on installing Panther.

I am ready to start putting my mobile studio together, so now I am wondering is it worth it, or to just stay with Jaguar? I know the practical differences between the two systems, but I am asking from a Recording Musician's stand point. Is it a huge difference, a little difference, better or worse????

BTW, I have decided to go with the MOTU 828mkII, couple BlueTube mic pre's, Soundtrack and Audiodesk (for now), and T-Racks for mastering. Any opinions on what's the best Audio Editor ala SoundForge?

Thanks for any help; sorry for such a LONG first post!
JAMES

Howdy,
Welcome to the Mac world - now you own an awesome creative tool with power beyond any PC user's comprehension. They just don't get it, do they?
About your switching to Panther: 10.3 is an awesome OS, lots of cool features that make it easy to work the way you want, lots of integrations (like the Core sound system) and seamless interconnectivity between apps & the desktop, and well worth the $, the time to install, and the space on your HD - BUT..it is still a little new - and not all developers have been able to keep up with Apple's pace. I still have apps that worked fine under Jag, but won't even boot under Panther! So, if I were you - as long as my apps are running fine, and the updates have not been made available for ALL my crucial stuff - I would stick with Jag. You can check with Mark of the Unicorn's website http://www.motu.com/MOTUHomeJ.html, or an update site like Version Tracker http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/, to see when your software has been made fully compatible w/Panther.
BTW - Enjoy that new system, man! I use a TiBook (1ghz/1gigRAM) and an Mbox for my mobile studio - and sometimes I wish I had waited until I had the extra $ to buy that big honkin' 17" display! Now I have a 17" studio display on my desk and I use it w/my PBook, but man that big momma woulda been sweet!
Good Luck - Feel free to drop me a line biggrin.gif
