Hi. I just wanted to make sure of a few things before I buy the Digidesign Mbox.
Will I be able to hook my Microkorg digi/analogue sound module mini keyboard to the audio in on the Mbox for audio recording, and at the same time connect it to a seperate midi interface to use as a midi controller devise with Reason 2.5? I would just want to simultaneously go back and forth between using the microkorg for recording audio then using it as a midi controller without disconnecting and re-connecting wires. Also, will propellerhead's Rewire enable me to use Reason and Ableton Live with Protools LE? Will it allow me to use other VST programs with Protools LE? I really want to keep my set up as simple and easy as possible for doing techno based home recording, and production on my ibook 800MhZ(640 mb ram) in the bedroom studio. Eventually I might just add a sampler module or a drum sequencer module(electribe/ akai mpc1000) to the set up, but not nessessarilly. Thanks for any replies on this post. -J This post has been edited by rosiedog: Tue 18 Nov 2003, 06:45 |

aww, now you guys are making me remember the good ol' days of 4-track cassette recording in my parents' basement....
i know i managed to make a horrible first impression on anyone reading this thread, but please allow me to state my most basic belief about recording with hope that everyone here will accept the validity of my opinions and not hold the dark side of my passion against me: the only equipment anyone ever needs to capture the true nature of any song is 1 microphone, 1 track of tape, and 1 good musician... that is to say that the magic is in human nature and the balance between perfection and flaw - not in the gear or even the notes being played. the whole purpose of all of this gear that we use is to capture that purity, not to synthesize it or transcribe it to a robotic grid. with this in mind, the reason (no pun intended) i'm so critical of music created with reason (or any sequence-based program) is that the program sort of lends itself to the exact opposite of this goal. the sounds you can get from it are practically limitless, and can be rich and full of expression - if you play them live. as soon as you step-record or quantize, the humanity is lost. basically what i'm trying to say is everyone go for it... make any and every kind of music you can conjure up no matter how good or bad anyone thinks it is - just please, for the sake of your own artistic expression, don't let the computer do the creative parts for you. i guess you could call me a purist, but if you listen to my music (which hopefully i'll have available to link to in the future) you'll hear quite a variation between synthesis and live recording. i do tend to go both ways since i think mixing live tracks with computerized (NOT quantized) tracks creates an excellent dynamic contrast when done properly. really i like to try to go any and every way i can, so long as i can get my mind to open up to new things. anyway, i could keep rambling, but this post is getting a bit too long for my taste. bye for now! |
