I am totally new to making music on computers (have done some guitar and bass playing but that's about it in the past). Initially, I want to be able to put together song ideas/basic demos, but may be interested in getting into more serious digital music making later on.

At the moment, all I have is a Powerbook G3 Firewire with Cubase: I am not particularly piano/keyboard literate, and am interested to know if I can do anything worthwhile without any external hardware at all, and if there is any other software I need to do it.

Any help much appreciated.

Thomas
