Well... here's the trouble... i'm going to buy a new iMac... and i WAS going to buy a ZOOM ten-track ministudio... BUT a friend of mine told me... 'hey... with an iMac you can have a portastudio in it!!!!'...

it's just that he didn't tell me how.... i don't know a thing about interfaces for the normal plugs or midi things or software to use with the right interface... what should i buy to convert my brand new iMac in a multitrack personal studio?

Thanks
Natalie

That's a nice looking unit. One drawback is no phantom power for mics requiring it (most good ones). You'd have to buy a seperate unit for that ($100 range minimum)

Digidesign is coming out with a simple USB interface that has phantom power (Focusrite pres) and is bundled with Pro Tools LE, the same 24 track app bundled with the Digi001. Not as fancy as the Tascam but MUCH less space on your desk. It will be about the same price.

I've used Digital Performer and Pro Tools but never put much time on Cubase or Cubasis. Don't know much about it.
