USB or FireWire interface? How many tracks do you want to record or send out to an external mixer simultaneously? USB is fine for 2-track stereo. Not too expensive, either, and it leaves your FireWire port for an external HD.

Edirol UA-5 is good, UA-700 more useful (IMHO) but more expensive. Tascam controllers are quite popular (US-428 or 224) and M-Audio do a wide range of interfaces, although people seem to have a fair amount of problems with M-Audio drivers (noticed here and in other forums).

SX is a good program - I'm surprised more people don't use it. I like it a lot - despite the bugs! laugh.gif
