Somebody pelase help me - I'm a fairly inexperienced user, but have been running logic 4.8.something on my Lombard Powerbook for a little over a year now, not really understanding OMS and not using MIDI that much, but i now have a brand new machine and would like to hook up either

a) my midiman midisport 1x1 usb interface
b) my roland edirol pc-300 controller keyboard

to my new G4.

When I try to run OMS Setup it freezes after trying to find some interface or other, very early on in the proceedings. The obvious things like paring down to the basic extensions haven't helped me at all.

I have to run under OS 9 because none of my software is for OS X unfortunately, but this is getting frustrating. Any help would be MUCH appreciated biggrin.gif

Perhaps I can help you. I just gave a RolandED PC300 to my son for Christmas and have spent quite a few hours setting it up.

1) go to the Roland and OMS web sites and get the current versions of the respective driver and software at www.edirol.com/support/drivers.html and at www.opcode.com/products/oms/

The versions on the Cubasis CD are not current and do not work for the PC300!

2) Check out the Propellerhead web site. They do a good job of explaining how to load OMS for a USB/OSX mac and the pitfall that crashes your OS. Set up OMS as they recommend on your MDD; oddly it is needed for Jaguar as well.

At the same time I downloaded the REASON demo, set the preferences to the Roland and am able to play music w/o a hitch.

On your OS9 mac: decompress OMS, decompress the Roland driver, set up OMS. Your Roland should now be set up correctly. With Cubasis I am able to see the "In" light blink when I play on the Roland keyboard, so I know it is connected, but do not have sound. I assume this is due to my ignorance of sequencer software. Which leads me to the question: does anyone know a good book or video cassette that explains Cubasis AV and other sequencer software?

I hope this helps you!
