So I currently have a powerbook G4 and mainly I use Live 6 and Reason 3.

and I'm looking at getting (preferably) an iMac as there's already a screen with it, and I have a spare dell 2407 24" widescreen monitor... so...

would an iMac be suffice for audio work for years to come? (As I said, I use Live and Reason 3, both are universal, as well as Audacity, SoundConverter, and Soundtrack)

or would it be overkill, and I should get a mac mini pimped out? or perhaps spend a bit extra and get a mac pro?

Im sure I wouldn't need THAT much more power (as i do all my work at the moment on the g4 powerbook)

I dont know... suggestions? thoughts? opinions? anyone with a 24" imac out there? smile.gif

I had kind of a similar question... I have an iMac G5 1.8GHz... running Reason 2.5 (will soon be 3) and Logic Pro 7. I'm looking at the 24" iMac with maybe the 2.33GHz Intel (LOVE the fact that they put a firewire 800 on that thing)... anybody using this with a lot of soft synths that can give me an idea of performance. I've been pretty darn successful with the current one, so I'm assuming the performance is fairly awesome?

Of course, I've been reading some problems with the new core duos on this site, so... it's got me a little worried. tongue.gif
