Hello!
I am thinking of buying the EMU 1820 M .I wonder if it is possible to use two of them at the same time.I am currently using the Yamaha ds2416, I use two of them and it works fine.I need to have 24 tracks and the 1820 M gives just 16 tracks so will two cards solve my problem? Cheers! Amrut |

I use an 1820m for my PC (i use both to make music) - I thought that the digital (ADAT) was for 10 tracks for a sum total of 18 inputs & to be honest, I have never had to use more than a couple at any one time. If you are tracking a band in a room, while it would be nice to have 24, it is not absolutely necessary (unless you are doing funk or ska with horns). Emu's site would be helpful. It is www.emu.com. Simple. I know there has been talk of emu making it possible to stack 1820's but I am not actually sure of whether or not they have actually been able to pull it off. Again the website can tell you more than I & if they don't say it is possible to stack, then it ain't (at least not now). Note also the number of tracks on your sound card has nothing to do with the amount of tracks you can use with your DAW (unless you are talking Pro Tools LE which is a maximum of 32), as with most DAWs you are generally limited only by your CPU capacity for how many tracks you have.
I gotta reiterate: many of the great albums of the past generally were done on comparatively small consoles/multi-track machines with maybe a maximum of 16 inputs (ie. Beatles, Hendrix, early Zeppelin). Don't get screwed up about track count right now. You could make good recordings with a bloody M-Box if you wanted. Oh yeah, you really oughta buy a Mac as well. You won't be sorry. Fer realz. This post has been edited by mortalengines: Fri 28 Apr 2006, 21:50 |
