Hello all,
I'm considering buying a sound card as the integrated audio plugs of my G4 are dying of old age and bully. My use is : various sources -> small mixer -> G4 (so no need for phantom 48V and that kind of stuff) I had a look on the internet and i found the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 wich looks good too me. - I/O RCA, so bye-bye minijack loose connection - PCI interface (cheaper than firewire. I don't need mobility, have some spare PCI slots, don't want an USB thing) - I/O SPDIF, just in case - I/O MIDI, just in case - 100€ or less.. The big problem is I have a CPU upgrade Gigadesigns 1214 (mono 1.4 Ghz) and they say on the tech specs that all CPU upgrades are "unsupported". Does it mean they don't want to support them or that this audio card won't be usable ? Does someone have this setup or something similar ? My exact computer is : PowerMac G4 Gigabit 400 -> 1.4Ghz, OS X3.9 (i'm also planning to get tiger soon), 700MB RAM. Thanks for reading, folks |

Yep, thanks for your answer
I wanted to make sure and made a search on google with keywords audiophile + 2496 + gigadesigns. Obviously, there's very few results and a lot of 404-page-not-found stuff. Still i could read what's in the google search page and there's one guy saying that the cards conflicted, but i couldn't read the compete message. All I'm looking for is someone saying "I've got the same setup as you and it works like a charm". Maybe i better look for the holy grail |
