Hi, thats my first topic in this forum and i would to ask you some questions about mac.I am a prospective mac user and its hard for me to decide whether to choose a desktop(powermac) or a laptop(powerbook).I am facing this problem cause i'll be away from home many months the next years(because of my studies), so i should take a laptop but many people tell me that the difference between a powerbook and a powermac its huge. For years i produce in cubase, loading many vst effects and plug-ins but always facing problems like crashing and other pc stuf. Will a powerbook with a good audio card do this for me without crashing and stuff?or i should choose a powermac?
Please give me some advice i am amateur 100% Thanks |

IF you can afford them Powerbooks are great, so flexible, expandable, portable. You'll need an external drive and max it out with RAM but you'll never look back. You can have an extra screen at home so that you can get dual screen action ( it can handle two screens ). Try to use the PCMCIA slot to expand with extra firewire, SCSI or USB or an interface or PCI slots so you don't run out of ports on the back panel.
Con...32 bit not 64 so a big drop in plug in power....the same speed 64 bit machine will do approx 3 or 4 times as much plug in processing as a 32 bit machine. Desktops can take much more RAM for your samples.Screensize can be an issue on the smaller powerbooks. A g5 imac is almost portable as long as ytou're always near a power point -------------------- Simon Flinn
