I have recently purchased an apple G5 with panther, and recently upgraded it to Tiger. Everything worked fine for couple of weeks, until today, my computer does not start up anymore, I just get a blue screen on the display: it starts, shows an apple on the display, then the running circular cursor , then the small window with message "Mac OS X Starts up", then everything fades to blue screen.

Anybody has an idea? thanks a lot.
I tried a start up from disc, but nothing works. Disk utility, etc nothing works. I must admit I am not a mac expert. But I am using the mac for Computer graphics and video editing.

thanks for ur help.

Put the system DVD into your machine, shut it down. Reboot with the "C" key depressed, this will force the machine to boot to the DVD.

The system will boot and bring you to the system install dialog. Got to the menu at the top of the screen and choose disk utility. Attempt to repair your system drive, if successfull you should be able to reboot from the system drive.

If you are not successful, reformat your drive and install the system.
If you cannot format, then you will have to replace the hard drive.
