The Apple MIDI configuration seems to be confused when you change the driver. If you follow this ritual when upgrading M-Audio drivers (I do this to update the FW 410) you won't have problems.
1 - Uninstall the FW 410 driver and reboot.
2 - Open the Audio/MIDI preferences, go to the MIDI config and remove the Firewire 410 device.
3 - Install the new driver and reboot
After doing this, it should work like a charm.
