Bye.

Dear DUC friends,

Some of you have asked why software applications like Logic Audio don't work with control surfaces like ProControl.

Whenever you have a "platform" to support there are difficult trade-offs you have to make in terms what will be supported "platform-wide." When it comes to complex control surfaces like ProControl (and the new Control|24), there would be a considerable amount of work involved in documenting and supporting third-party developers. That work trades off directly against feature development in Pro Tools software. We've made the decision to put that time to best use by working on more mixing (and other) features for our customers. There's a tremendous amount of work involved in getting products like Pro Tools v5.1 to market... While we'd like to be all things to all people, there are trade-offs... and based on the world-wide success of ProControl, there appear to be a lot of folks who are satisfied.

And we haven't stopped closely supporting important developers like Emagic. Improvements we make to DAE and our Plug-In library are benefits that are passed along to *all* of customers, whatever front-end software you choose to use. (A good example is Multi-Shell II that allows DSP sharing between MS II aware Plug-Ins... Logic customers get to use this right along with Pro Tools software users.)
