I just bought a G5 Dual Processor Mac, and am in the market for a sound card.
I've searched and browsed the forums looking for advice, and found many topics on what cards don't work (such as the M-Audio and Delta-44) with the new G5's, but not much on what does work. I don't need much from my sound card. Mostly I want to have an additional sound output port, so I can use it with Live or DJ software so I can save the built in port for cueing sounds. Maybe later it might be nice to have a midi input, or a surroud sound outport, but that's not essential for now. I'm looking for something inexpensive, under $200. With my last system I tried a usb adapter, but man that thing blows and is always cutting out. Hoping that an internal card would work better. Any advice? |

smpte/sync..
are you doing video. what do you need to sync with smpte? if you are recording audio you don't need smpte. are you using an ADAT? i am confused? can you not sync with midi? if you need a midi controller they are usb mostly now days. if you have many outboard midi gear you would want to get a midi time piece 4x4 or 8x8. these devices cost over the 200 dollar original post. don't confuse the original poster with features that he is not needing. he mentioned nothing about smpte/syncing. why lead him on with features that he does not need. sure those are cool things, but not needed to run Live. if you were using an ADAT or working in a TV studio then maybe you need to get some device that does syncing with smpte. i am only trying to give he/she valid choices for the cost that was projected without letting my personal opinion of features cloud there decision and further keep them from contiuing to work. |
