We have a Yamaha Clavinova electronic piano, and of course, Macs. I have a MIDI-USB interface (Yamaha UX16) with drivers installed. I also have the new GarageBand from Apple (and the old one) and Finale's "PrintMusic" software for OSX.

I have played with all the configurations and can't get the computer to recognize that there is a piano connected. All I want to do, at this point, is to get my daughter a setup where she can play on the Clav, and have the notes recorded for playback in the computer (using GarageBand) or to compose sheet music (in Finale PrintMusic).

Using Panther, the most recent update installed. Audio MIDI Setup recognizes the Yamaha UX16, but will not recognize the piano no matter what I try. The UX16 shows a red "power on" light, and with certain plug configurations, shows a green "activity" light, but no Clav appears in Audio MIDI Setup. If I create a new MIDI device, called "Clav" or whatever, and then test setup, I get a booming, disharmonic response from the piano when I click on the uplink connector, but no response at all when I tinkle the piano keyboard.

I'm completely lost and need a MIDI mac person to lead me to salvation. Do you have any leads??

Yes as the Apparation says, GarageBand's input and out settings ARE NOT THE SAME as Macintosh 10's. You will need to set them to your interface in both preference panels.
