Actually I just had to reply to this
Of course, my powerbook is shadowed by my friend's 3.2 ghz Pentium 4 tower with a gig of RAM, Radeon 9800 pro, Soundblaster audigy 2 pro etc. Whatever, he likes his as the entertainment machine but he has fiddled with music from time to time. I once had this piano sample that was a gigabyte in size.
Really!!
My powerbook with 512 struggled a lot with it, but played it, his computer barely played it even with double the memory.
Sounds like your friend has absolutley no idea how to set up a computer for audio on the PC...this is a huge wank!!
I run loads of large samples at the same time on a 2.8 ghz hyperthread...in fact Steinberg grand, heavy duty samples in EXS 24 and lots of stuff in Kontakt as well, atmosphere, trilogy...you name it.
I am currently mastering a symphonic style track that is using bucketloads of automation, loads of tracks...nearly 90 (not all at once of course) and plenty of samples and VST instruments as well. T
his is on Logic 5.5...NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!
Actually BTW setting up a PC for Audio is pretty darn simple...so I have to assume you got your computer science degree in a Frickin raffle!!
