I 've been recording music for years at home on 4 tracks and lately on a Roland digital 8 track.

I want to invest in a Powerbook & Logic 6. What do I need in addition? For an interface I would like 1/4 inch inputs.

I play guitar and all my gear is outboard rack F/X and pedals. Does that make a difference?

Also, I plan to perform live with the Powerbook. What might I need?

I have read through the forums and would like to be a little more personal. Please go easy on me.

Thanks!

You need to have at least one audio interface, either a firewaire or an usb interface.

Depending on your needs you may also need a separate midi-interface.
For recording midi-info and possibly also for synchronizing purposes.

http://www.motu.com/ &
http://www.presomus.com/ &
http://www.digidesign.com/ --- makes fw-audio-interfaces.

http://www.digidesign.com/ &
http://www.event1.com/ ----- makes usb-interfaces

http://www.digidesign.com/ ----- makes midi-interfaces

MOTU:s 828-MK-II is anexcellent fw interface with simultaneous 8-analog ins & outs on
1/4" balanced/unbalanced trs-jacks .
It has also two preamp mic inputs Neutrik connectors with 48Volt switchable phantom powert
1 midi in/out
I has a no latencu DSP-Cuemix feature & can route 4 speparate discreet stereo mixes to deifferent
stereo output pairs.
Can also act as a standalone mixer A/D-converter.
I has also some synch possibiliteis as well I believe.

Check it out at http://www.motu.com/

The above mentioned manufacturers are of course NOT the only ones.

if going with Logic 6... i recommend a MT4 or AMT8 from Emagic for midi interface... Logic allows you to take advantage of its excellent midi timing in these devices giving very low latency. cool.gif

Check out WWW.MOTU.COM
They have sequencers and Audio/Midi interfaces. Different pricing. You should be able to do what you want LIVE from MOTU They are the BEST. Since you are using a Lap Top they also have a firewire Audio Interface and a USB midi

yeah MOTU is good stuff but if I were going to use MOTU stuff... I would use Digital Performer 4 instead of Logic. Not that some of the apps can't be used with other brand interfaces but some apps work better with certain interfaces. cool.gif
