Hi
I have installed logic 5.5 into OSX and done all the registering bits with emagic but can't seem to get any sound through my Edirol. I also use Reason which gives me no trouble but logic is another kettle of fish!! I have tried to read the War & Peace manual but found it as useful as a chocolate teapot - all what but no how. Where am I going wrong? Can any of you guys help me! Carol |

You'll have to give some more information.
What "sound" can't you get through your Edirol (and which edirol?)? Are you trying to record or playback audio files? Are you playing audio instruments? Have you set "Audio Hardware and Drivers" to the Edirol Core Audio drivers? This post has been edited by formatj: Sun 2 Feb 2003, 23:47 |

Hi formatj
Thats the thing, I cannot get any sound, not even a squeak. I get the image on the screen and press the keyboard for say grand piano and nothing. The Edirol is PCR-50. I am still new to this! I have set Audio Hardware & Drivers to the Core audio drivers. Thanks for any help. Carol |

ok... here is the thing... Logic is a midi BEAST... and if you don't have things connected right with midi cables inside Logic's Click & Ports.... midi control will never work. Can you verify that you are getting midi note data in the transport window when you press a note on the Edirol? If you make the transport window visible and make it so it shows midi in and out data... this will tell you if you have the midi setup correctly or not when pressing keys on the Edirol as it should show the notes coming in. Then... you must make the audio instrument track with your plug you want to play in arrange window active by clicking on it. Even though the plug is displayed... doesn't mean it is active and getting midi.
Can you provide anymore info on what exactly you are doing? This would help much as it still seems a bit vague.... remember we are not able to see your screen -------------------- ----------------------------------------

Hi Synthetic
Yes I am getting midi note data on the transport window when I press a note but no sound. As I am still a newbie I am not sure I have things connected right with cables etc. What I am doing is clicking on Logic icon to open, the Logic screen comes up with arrange at the top, instruments to the left, click on grand piano press the midi see all the notes coming in through the transport window and nothing! carol |

The track with the grand piano icon this is designed for playing external synthesizers or sound modules (or it can be set up for quicktime instruments). Unless you have an external MIDI device that actually has a sound engine (i.e. not a controller keyboard) you will not hear anything.
It seems that your MIDI is set correctly as you are getting note data on the transport window. If you have no external synth you will need to use logic's own virtual synths and samplers or Audio Unit synths. You can download a free Audio unit synth at http://www.u-he.com/zoyd/ Can you see an audio instrument track on the arrange window? You will need to load a synth into one of these tracks. Double click on the audio instrument to open the mixer and insert a synth in the pop-up box just above Out 1-2 on Inst 01 object. You should now hopefully be able to hear some sounds! |

yep... those icons u see when arrange opens are just examples of what you could set with midi using external synths/samplers... those icons really aren't connected to piano sounds unless you assign them to sounds on one of the modules so this is why no sound
your logic may have came with some plugs for synths or sample player and if so... you need to setup the instrument in the "Audio Instrument" tracks. Then select that trackand try playing your keyboard controller and see what happens. there are some freebies as formatj has indicated around on the net if you look This post has been edited by Synthetic: Wed 5 Feb 2003, 03:43 -------------------- ----------------------------------------
