Hi! my name is Alessandro and I am a musician-composer. I own a Powerbook g4 and I have to create a soundtrack for a documentary. I have already created soundtracks for documentaries, but they were stereo tracks.
Now, for the first time, I should create a 5.1 D.Digital one! as I normally work with soundtrack and Garageband, would be so kind to suggest me how to start? Could you give me some links to resources, tutorials,,advices and usefull stuff? I will explore this site in the next days. thanks to everybody! ALEX |

First of all you will need to use logic audio or pro tools or digital performer or nuendo or other compatible 5.1 software,
garage band won't do it The good thing is that logic can open a garage band files so you open the project in logic and in mixer window hold your mouse button down at the bottom of the first channel strip drag it to left or right and select your audio or software instrument channel then press on output on the channel strips and choose surround and your are ready to go or you can do them one at a time its up to you. To be able to do surround panning you have double click on the channel strip output that says surround. A good place to check is mac pro video web site they have great tutorial videos there straight for download what you can do is email them and tell what you need and they will let you know what videos they have. or there are also askvideo they make great tutorial videos too. or just Google how to do 5.1 audio on mac and you should find something First of all you will need to use logic audio or pro tools or digital performer or nuendo or other compatible 5.1 software, garage band won't do it The good thing is that logic can open a garage band files so you open the project in logic and in mixer window hold your mouse button down at the bottom of the first channel strip drag it to left or right and select your audio or software instrument channel then press on output on the channel strips and choose surround and your are ready to go or you can do them one at a time its up to you. First of all you will need to use logic audio or pro tools or digital performer or nuendo or other compatible 5.1 software, I see. Thanks for your answer. I have decided to invest some time into learning one of those software. Would you suggest me Logic? I would prefer that one. I do not have a lot of time before preparing that soundtrack, and, I would like to learn a software able to do many things, composing, editing, audio ecc. A powerfull one, and logic sounds to be the best, doesn't it? Let me know If it is better to me to invest time in it or something else. Thanks IRON |

Hi,
if you're going to work to picture a lot in the future don't ignore Digital Performer. ver 6 has some excellent enhancements for video and picture, as well as mastering tools. my 2 cents. good luck! |
